The Whittley Club of NSW Inc obtained a defibrillator through NSW Office of Sport grant program.  The assistance I received from Julie and the organisation was fantastic!  MHF helped guide me through the necessary paperwork and provided our members with thorough training in the use of the equipment.

- Narelle Baglin, Treasurer, Whittley Club NSW Inc.

Our CPR refresher course was great, and Kevin is just awesome! I don’t think we would want anyone else but Kevin from now on, we feel spoilt!

- Baber Rasheed, Community First Step, Fairfield

I just completed my HLTAID003 Provide First Aid course. It was the best first aid training I have ever done. Charnan is a fantastic trainer with such a wealth of experience.

- Karen Hope, General Manager People, Culture and Youth Programs, PCYC NSW

Since 2016, Stellar Learning has used Michael Hughes Foundation for all our first aid training. Our trainer Kevin is amazing… Not only does he do First Aid courses, he is a paramedic and very hands on. Kevin explains things in an easy manner and helps everyone throughout the course. I would recommend him and the Foundation to any business wanting to host a first aid course.

- Liv Taylor, Stellar Learning Group

Thank you MHF! Your first aid and CPR training were fantastic. We love your presenters because they always make the training so interesting for our staff by sharing real life knowledge and experience. Keep up the great work.

Keep up to date with content and discussions about preventative health strategies and measures that directly relate to cardiac arrest. Articles cover genetics, psychology and general health messages.

Preventative Health Strategies

The Michael Hughes Foundation (MHF) is a registered Australian charity that operates as a social enterprise, selling products and services to support the Foundation’s advocacy, community engagement, and charitable activities. The Foundation exists to support change in the response to cardiac arrest when it occurs outside of the hospital, with a strong mission to Turn Bystanders into First Responders in medical emergencies. Everything we do as an organization underpins this mission statement.

The focus of the Foundation is to improve the effective and timely response to cardiac arrest when it happens in the community… but we are passionate about raising awareness and creating valuable content related to the preventative health care topics:

General Heart Health

Cardiovascular Disease is the No. 1 killer of Australians each year. This is generally related to lifestyle and general health of individuals and linked to obesity, alcohol consumption, rates of smoking, diabetes, and other lifestyle choices. There is a direct link between cardiovascular disease and incidence of cardiac arrest events. Good lifestyle choices, exercise, and moderation are a staple for general heart health and ways to reduce cardiovascular disease.

Genetics

Understanding your family’s medical history is vital in being able to treat current family members of all ages. There is a growing and important need for genetic testing, particularly with cardiac arrest when a death of a loved one is sudden and unexplained.

Mental Health

Attending to medical emergencies, and in particular cardiac arrest, can be a confronting, traumatic and emotional experience for anybody. As a Foundation, we encourage everyone to be aware of the trauma you or others you know have experienced and seek help where it is required. Caring for your own mental health is vital!
